According to some 50 international law experts, China violates the “UN Convention against Genocide” by suppressing the Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang’s western region.

The Chinese regime there is very tough on the local population, but there is a discussion about the term “genocide”.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump’s previous US administration declared that China committed a “genocide” in Xinjiang. Since then, the Netherlands and Canada’s parliaments have also denounced the genocide in resolutions, although this was against the wishes of their governments in Ottawa and The Hague.

A few days ago, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi brushed aside the accusation of genocide as “beyond ridiculous”.

Today a report has been presented by some fifty experts who also speak of genocide. The report was compiled by the American think tank Newslines Institute for Strategy and Policy in Washington and the Raoul Wallenberg Center for Human Rights based in Montreal’s Canadian city.

In that report, the researchers accuse the communist regime in Beijing of violating the 1948 United Nations Convention against Genocide. China is a signatory to that convention, along with more than 150 other states.
