Trump Dismisses the Critical Study of Medicine as Work by Enemies
President Trump has lashed out at a medical study that casts doubt on the effectiveness of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as a drug against the coronavirus.
According to him, it is the work of “Trump enemies”.
The U.S. president has been promoting the drug for some time and announced earlier this week that he takes a pill of hydroxychloroquine every day.
That led to doctors’ warnings that hydroxychloroquine is not as harmless as Trump does it.
According to the U.S. Medicines Agency FDA, the drug can have serious side effects, such as cardiac arrhythmias.
It should only be used in the hospital or as part of a medical trial. Asked for the FDA’s advice, Trump said, “That’s not what they told me.”
Trump’s physician, White House doctor Sean Conley, had given the green light to the drug after he and Trump concluded that the potential benefit outweighed the risks.
