The US House of Representatives Sends Charges Against Trump to Senate
The US House of Representatives sends the charges against President Donald Trump to the Senate. Deputies in the House dominated by Democrats agreed with 228 to 193 votes.
The Democrats accuse Trump of abusing power and impeding Congress.
Earlier in the day, President Nancy Pelosi of the House announced who would be acting as prosecutors in the settlement process.
The Democrat Adam Schiff will head the seven-member team of so-called impeachment managers.
The White House expects Trump to be acquitted soon in the Senate, says an anonymous government official.
“I think it is improbable that it will take longer than two weeks.” In the Senate, Trump’s Republican party has the most seats. The senators will act as jury members in the process.
