Slovakia Two Weeks in Lockdown

Following the example of neighbouring Austria, Slovakia is introducing a lockdown for the entire population. The country has been under a lockdown for unvaccinated since Monday.

Slovakia has the fastest increase in the number of infections globally, which is why the government has put the country on hold for two weeks.

As a result, restaurants and non-essential shops, among other things, have to close, said Economy Minister Richard Sulik.

In the country of 5.5 million inhabitants, the threshold of 10,000 new infections in 24 hours was crossed on Tuesday for the first time.

The hospitals can no longer handle the flow of patients. Less than half of the population has received a corona vaccination.
