Shell Reorganization Costs Hundreds of Jobs in the United Kingdom
Shell is likely to cut up to 700 jobs at its UK arm as part of the previously announced major reorganization at the oil and gas group.
Shell already announced in September that 7,000 to 9,000 jobs would be cut to save costs due to the corona crisis. The job losses should lead to cost savings of $ 2 billion to $ 2.5 billion a year.
It has now become clear that Shell is expected to reduce its UK workforce by 10 percent to 14 percent over the next two years. However, the group cannot yet give a precise number.
Shell has also indicated that it plans to cut 330 jobs in the so-called North Sea activities. This probably affects mainly office workers in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The British-Dutch group employs approximately 83,000 employees worldwide, 9,000 in the Netherlands and about 5,000 in the United Kingdom.
