Russian Massive Vaccination Campaign Will Start Next Week

Health authorities in Russia will start a massive vaccination campaign against Covid-19 next week. President Vladimir Putin gave them that order on Wednesday.

“Let’s get started,” Putin told Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova. Teachers and doctors are the first to receive a vaccination.

Incidentally, the first Russian citizens have already received the Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus. At the end of last month, the first vaccines were delivered to a hospital just south of Moscow.

The drug is met with some scepticism in the West, but Moscow claims it is just as effective as some other vaccines.

Nearly 2 million doses of Sputnik V have been produced in Russia, Putin said. The country has about 145 million inhabitants.

Russia reported a record number of corona deaths and infections on Tuesday. In 24 hours there were 569 deaths, bringing the total to 40,464.
