Netanyahu: Emirates Deal is the Start of A New Era

The deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates marks the beginning of a “new era” for Israel and the Arab world.

So said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who emphasized that the agreement does not mean that the annexation of parts of the West Bank is now definitely off the track.

Israel and the UAE have agreed to normalize their relationship after US mediation.

The countries previously had no formal diplomatic relations, but observers say they do have a familiar rival in Iran. The US and Iran also have a tense relationship.

The powerful Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said on Twitter that the deal with Israel prevents further Israeli annexation of Palestinian territories.

Netanyahu later made it clear in a televised speech that the planned takeover of areas in the West Bank is only being suspended.
