More Than A Million Corona Infections in Africa
In Africa, more than a million people are infected with the coronavirus, more than half of which are registered in South Africa.
South Africa has been by far the hardest hit. 538,184 inhabitants are infected, 9604 of whom have died as a result.
The country ranks fifth worldwide in terms of infections. There are almost 95,000 infections in Egypt, Nigeria has about 45,000.
The African continent appears to be one of the least affected, and only Oceania recorded a lower number of cases.
But the number of diagnosed cases probably reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections. Many African countries have poor healthcare and limited screening capacity.
Worldwide, a total of nearly 19 million corona cases have been registered. The pandemic killed more than 709,000 people.
