Luxembourg Closes Catering Until Mid-December
Cafés, restaurants, cinemas and gyms in Luxembourg will close from Thursday to December 15 to stop the advance of the coronavirus.
Shops remain open, but customers must wear a face mask.
Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced the measures on Monday. The parliament of the country with more than 600,000 inhabitants has yet to approve it on Wednesday.
“The situation is not catastrophic, but we want to have some room for manoeuvre to guarantee normal care in the hospital in the medium term,” said Bettel.
Luxembourgers already have a curfew between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Households may receive a maximum of four guests.
Luxembourg has the most corona infections per capita of all EU countries. There is an average of 1279 per 100,000.
