Gospel Music and Bible Readings at George Floyd’s Funeral
George Floyd’s funeral service started at 11:00 AM local time. Floyd died in Minneapolis just over two weeks ago after a cop tightened his throat with a knee for minutes.
On Monday, thousands of people said goodbye to Floyd at The Fountain of Praise Church in Houston.
The private service also takes place there before the funeral, which can also be followed via a live stream.
After the service, he is taken by horse and cart to the cemetery, where he is buried next to his mother’s grave.
The service began with Bible readings interspersed with gospel music. The pastor on duty said, “Let’s make this a real African-American funeral.
So let’s celebrate George Floyd’s life and not grieve.”
A sign language interpreter was present at all speeches. About 500 guests attend the service, including celebrities like Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx.
