French police have fired tear gas at a demonstration of health workers in Paris, a reporter from the British news agency Reuters reports on the spot.
According to the local police, the demonstration was hijacked by rioters.
All over France, healthcare workers take to the streets on Tuesday to demonstrate for better working conditions.
The atmosphere in the Paris demonstration became grim after the protest march arrived at the Esplanade des Invalides park. There, among other things, a car was pushed on its side and fires were lit.
In total, more than 220 promotions were announced in France on Tuesday, France24 reports.
Health care workers hailed as “heroes in white coats” by President Emmanuel Macron, want him to turn his admiration for their work into action during the corona crisis.
“The government’s unctuous speeches, chocolate medals and promises of arbitrary and hypothetical bonuses are not enough.
What is needed is progress in terms of more staff and money for public health,” the CBT union said in a message.
