Formula 1 Weekend at Zandvoort Also Gets A Women’s Race

The W Series, the racing class for women, has a race linked to the Dutch Grand Prix of Zandvoort next year. This means that Beitske Visser will also take action on the racetrack of the seaside resort on the weekend of 3 to 5 September.

Under the motto #WeRaceAsOne, the W Series is now officially a support race for 8 of the 23 Formula 1 races in 2021.

The pairing would actually have taken place at two Formula 1 races last year, but due to the corona pandemic, no W Series races were held all year.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Formula 1 for 2021 and beyond,” said Catherine Bond Muir, CEO of the W Series. “The eight races we are now part of allowing our fast and fearless female drivers to showcase their skills on some of the most iconic race tracks in Europe and America.”

Visser finished second in the then-new racing class two years ago. “I’m going for the win in 2021,” says the 25-year-old Dutchman. “I had secretly hoped the W Series would choose Zandvoort. Fantastic to be able to race for your own audience. Most fans, of course mainly come for Max Verstappen, but I hope they will also support me a bit.

Jan Lammers is also enthusiastic. “The W-Series is the highest podium for women in motorsport and should therefore not be missing from our program. It’s great that our Dutch star, Visser, is active in this class. We can now shout Beitske to victory in addition to Max. Enrichment for our event”, said the sports director.

W Series races are also planned around the Formula 1 races of Le Castellet, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.
