First Lawsuit for Corona Debacle in Winter Sports Resort Ischgl
In Austria, a first lawsuit will start on Friday associated with last year’s major corona outbreak in Ischgl, a winter sports resort.
The relatives of a deceased corona patient demand compensation of 100,000 euros from the national government. They accuse them of negligence.
In the winter sports resort in Tyrol, which is also popular among the Dutch, chaos ensued in March 2020 when it turned out that the coronavirus was spreading. Holidaymakers left en masse and took the virus with them to their home countries.
Independent experts later rendered a damning verdict on the actions of the authorities. They would have done better to let people leave scattered, a committee of inquiry concluded.
It doesn’t stop with Friday’s trial. Several processes start in September alone. The VSV consumer association, which represents the claimants, does not rule out the possibility that Austria may eventually face thousands of claims for damages.
