Hungarian Prime Minister Orban: European Sanctions are a Step Towards War

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday lashed out at the "dangerous" European strategy towards Russia and the war in Ukraine. The emphatic support for Kyiv is sliding the European Union "step by step into this war," he warned. "We supply destructive weapons, train Ukrainian soldiers on our territory; we impose energy sanctions. We are becoming an integral part" of the conflict, Orban told national radio on Friday. "We are not being shot down yet, but we are about to become belligerent. Europe is playing a dangerous game." Orban has denounced sanctions against Russia, which he believes are responsible for Hungary's economic hardship. Hungary Tightens Abortion Rules

Hungary has tightened abortion rules. Pregnant women who want an abortion in Hungary will first have to be confronted by their doctor with the "vital functions" (e.g. heartbeat) of the fetus. That is stated in a decree that was published Monday evening. Abortion has been legal in Hungary since 1953. Current law allows abortions for up to 12 weeks with an extension to 24 weeks in certain circumstances. Under the government of right-wing conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orban, anti-abortion rhetoric has increased in recent years. The new decree, which will come into effect on Thursday, 15 September, stipulates that women who wish to have an abortion must be confronted by their doctor with the "vital functions" of their fetus. The far-right party Mi Hazank applauds the new mea...

Donald Trump Backs Viktor Orban in Hungarian Election Campaign

Former US President Donald Trump has emailed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the run-up to the election this spring.   "He is a strong leader and is respected by everyone," Trump wrote in a statement sent Monday. "He has my full support and approval for his reelection as Prime Minister." It's a favour for Trump. Orbán supported Trump during both the successful 2016 election and the failed 2020 bid to remain in the White House. The Hungarian prime minister will face a united opposition for the first time in the elections expected to be held in April. As a result, his reelection for a fourth term as prime minister since 2010 will be a challenge. Orbán was the only head of government in the European Union not invited by US President Joe Biden to a virtual summit on the stat...

Hungary in the Process of Purchasing Russian Corona Vaccine

Hungary is in the process of acquiring the corona vaccine developed in Russia. The EU country has agreed with Russia that Hungarian doctors will see how the vaccine is made there next week.   After that, Russia will ship to Hungary. According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, talks are underway on how to make the Sputnik V vaccine in Hungary. The health system in Hungary is under tremendous pressure due to the many sick people due to corona. The number of patients in hospitals is approaching 10,000. A nightly curfew and other restrictions have no apparent effect yet. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Friday that he would decide on more restrictions around the holidays.
