Seventy Injured in Iran Earthquake
At least 70 people were injured in an earthquake in northwestern Iran near the border with Turkey on Wednesday. Official sources have reported this.
According to the American seismological institute USGS, the earthquake occurred at 13:38 local time (11:08 a.m. Belgian time) with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The seismological centre of the University of Tehran maintains a force of 5.4 at a depth of 12 kilometres.
At least 70 people were injured as they fled, state television reported, citing information from local officials.
The epicentre was in Khoy, a city in the province of West Azerbaijan, which borders Turkey. More than 300 homes in 15 villages were damaged, state television said.
