Boeing to Compete with Airbus with New Freighter
Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is about to introduce a cargo version of its 777X jetliner. Qatar Airways is said to have already shown interest in American aircraft. Airbus previously announced that it is working on a new freighter.
It is unusual for an aircraft manufacturer to sell a freighter variant of an aircraft before the passenger version is on the market. However, due to disputes with regulatory authorities, the commercial debut of Boeing’s first passenger aircraft, 777X, is delayed until at least the end of 2023.
In addition to Qatar Airways, Boeing is also trying to entice other companies such as FedEx, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and Deutsche Post DHL to buy the new cargo plane; sources told Bloomberg news agency. The aircraft is expected to be launched at the Dubai Airshow next month.
Air freight has been flourishing since the corona crisis, while passenger numbers at airlines have fallen sharply. The new Airbus is based on the A350-1000 jet. The aim of Airbus with the aircraft is to break the supremacy of Boeing in this area.
