Actor Kevin Spacey Charged With Assaulting Three Men
American actor Kevin Spacey has been charged in the United Kingdom with four sexual assaults against three men. The British Public Prosecution Service (OM) announced this on Thursday.
“The CPS has cleared criminal proceedings against Kevin Spacey, 62, on four counts of sexual assault against three men,” Rosemary Ainslie, chief of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) special crime division, said in a statement.
He is also charged with having a man engage in penetrative sexual activity without his consent. “The charges come after a review of evidence gathered by London police during its investigation.”
The facts of which Spacey is accused took place between 2005 and 2013, it still sounds. In November 2017, London’s Old Vic Theater said it had received 20 different complaints from as many different men who spoke of inappropriate behaviour by Kevin Spacey. They had all come into contact with the actor in the theatre or its entourage. Spacey was Artistic Director of the Old Vic Theater between 2004 and 2015.
Two charges for offences from 2005 come from the same person. Another assault, dating from August 2008, also involved penetrative sexual acts without the consent of the person now filing the complaint. Finally, Spacey is facing charges for a fourth third-person assault in April 2013 in Gloucestershire.
A month earlier, actor Anthony Rapp had accused Spacey of making sexual advances while intoxicated and lying on top of him. Several other allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour followed in the wake of Rapp. At least eight men accused Spacey of sexual assault.
The consequences of the allegations were profound. Spacey lost his starring role in the hit TV series House of Cards and he was out of the planned film All the Money in the World. A lawsuit was filed against Spacey in Massachusetts in late 2018, but the prosecutor dropped the charges in July 2019.
Spacey, 62, who won an Oscar for his roles in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, has always denied the allegations.
